Since their very first pop-up in February 2011, the two popped up in almost every place you can imagine — from bars to one-car garages with big one exception: at a restaurant of their very own. Along the way they have wagged their finger at Anthony Bourdain’s The Layover, grilled octopus on the street with Eddie Huang at VICE and shared their recipes with Food & Wine Magazine. They run a busy catering program and weekly pop-up at Mojo Bicycle Cafe, but have been missing a permanent location where the two can serve Vietnamese comfort food in a fun and vibrant setting. Their current goal is raise $35,000 dollars in about 31 days with stretch goals to build outdoor seating and secure permits to get the full street food vibe in place. And if you’re wondering what’s on their menu, they’ll be open for lunch, brunch and dinner. The menu will feature noodle soups and rice plates that keep you warm on those cold San Francisco nights, plus street food and dim sum bites. The menu will include Bun Bo Hue (spicy lemongrass beef noodle soup), Chicken Pho, Pork Garlic Noodles, Fried Egg Sandwiches, Yellow Curry with Udon Noodles, and Handmade Lamb Dumplings. While making everything from scratch, like the shrimp chips and oyster sauce, to offer Vietnamese food that is soulful and exciting. All in all, Rice Paper Scissors is a pop-up restaurant in San Francisco owned by Katie Kwan and Valerie Luu. They met at the forageSF Underground Market, where they were both selling Vietnamese food.
